St. Michael the Archangel

Spencer was hired by Father Rizutto in 1996 to restore the rear upper & lower gallery  of the Rectory at St. Michael's in Convent, LA, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The columns along with entablature were in terrible disrepair & neglect, necessitating they be repaired &/or replaced. The porch t&g  decking was rotten and in order to be replaced, all of the columns needed to be removed and the building temporarily shored up. Moldings were articulately copied and knives made in order to replace the ornate column capitals exactly as they were intended by the original architect from Ghent, Belgium.

The Kitchen was a separate building and the elevated walkway needed constant repair due to not being covered. Spencer, along with the assistance of his father, Henry, designed a covered walkway in the most sensitive manner as to not take away from the architecture of the existing buildings. Most architects/builders take advantage of this moment and like to "make their stamp", showing their unique design abilities and showcase their work. It takes a sensitive master builder to appreciate what already exists, and to complement what is already beautiful, delicately adding pieces that blend in.
